Suspected car thieves charged after foiled escape in Haleiwa

Authorities charged two 22-year-old homeless men for allegedly breaking into cars parked at Haleiwa Beach Park this week.

Faiaga Vai, 22, also was charged with a misdemeanor because he tried to pass himself off as a police officer when he was caught looking into a car on Tuesday. His bail for the two counts of breaking into car and impersonating a police officer was set at $25,000.

Gideon Mesa, 22, who was driving the stolen car that collided with another car as the pair tried to elude police, was charged with car theft and several drug violations. His bail also was set at $25,000.

Both were charged Thursday afternoon.

Crime by the homeless is on the increase. That is not discussed openly but we can read between the lines. Living standards-the overall quality of life-has declined out here in recent years.
