STAR-ADVERTISER / JAN. 7, 2013

Kauikeaouli Hale, which houses District Court in Honolulu, closed following a water main break.

A water main break has closed the First Circuit District Court building, Kauikeaouli Hale, in downtown Honolulu.

Hearings and trials canceled because of the closure are being rescheduled and deadlines for court filings are extended until close of business Tuesday, by order of the Chief Justice.

The building closed at 10:45 a.m. after maintenance crews shut off all water.

Repairs are underway.

The closure is limited to courts and programs located at Kauikeaouli Hale, including the Honolulu District Courts and selected Family and Circuit Court trial divisions and administrative offices.

Kauikeaouli Hale is expected to reopen for business on Tuesday.
