A body floating in the ocean was recovered today near D.T. Fleming Beach Park in northwest Maui.

Maui County ocean safety personnel retrieved the body, which was floating face down, at 11:58 a.m.

Firefighters and paramedics performed life-saving measures but the victim could not be revived and died at the scene, Maui County Fire Services Officer Edward Taomoto said.

Taomoto said bystanders walking at Makaluapuna Point reported seeing the body in the water.

He said Maui County police were datermining the identity of the victim.
