A 37-year-old felon who was shot by police in 2013 after allegedly committing an Aiea home invasion robbery and trying to ram officers while fleeing in a stolen truck was briefly behind bars again last week.
Amery Kahale-Sugimura, also known as Jon Edward Dudoit, was arrested and charged with driving with a suspended license and a false vehicle inspection certificate in Wahiawa at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. He was released that afternoon after posting $3,000 bail.
Kahale-Sugimura is currently awaiting trial for the 2013 Aiea home invasion robbery and two unrelated felony cases.
In September 2013 Kahale-Sugimura was charged with auto theft, resisting arrest and driving without a license. He posted $40,000 bail.
While out on bail in October 2013, he allegedly assaulted a 68-year-old Aiea resident during the home invasion and allegedly tried to run over two officers while trying to flee in the resident’s truck.
That incident led to a 15-charge indictment, including methamphetamine trafficking, auto theft, unauthorized entry into a dwelling, burglary, assault of a law enforcement officer, robbery, assault and terroristic threatening. He posted $250,000 bail for that case in December 2014.
Then in July a grand jury returned a seven-count indictment charging him with first-degree methamphetamine trafficking, auto theft, third-degree assault, drug paraphernalia and three firearm offenses.
When he was arrested in July, the first $250,000 bail was returned to the bail bondsman, and a new $250,000 bail was set, which Kahale-Sugimura posted in September, according to court records.
He is scheduled for trial for all three cases in February.
Kahale-Sugimura has 19 convictions, including four for auto theft, going back to 1996. His other convictions include robbery, burglary and drugs.
