Large Maui brush fire mostly contained
Maui firefighters this morning returned to a portion of Piilani Highway, where a brush fire has scorched 25 acres, looking for any signs of smoldering areas.
The Kahikinui brush fire was reported around 5:10 a.m. Monday between mile posts 24.5 and 26 on the highway.
The cause of fire on the mauka side of Piilani Highway has not been determined. The highway is open to regular vehicle traffic.
Maui fire officials said the fire is about 90 percent contained.
No structures have been threatened and there were no evacuations ordered.
When crews left the scene at dusk, there were no signs of smoke.

Firefighters conducted fire patrols of the area during the night.
