ZipperLane issue resolved, no traffic tie-up expected
The ZipperLane on the H-1 freeway was closed at 12:45 after a delay due to mechanical problems with the ZipMobile.
The state Department of Transportation said the lane was only partially closed when the ZipMobile experienced problems as it was shutting down the lane and removing the concrete barriers this morning.
A second ZipMobile was used to shut down the lane, the state said.
DOT officials said it expects no impact on peak afternoon traffic.
On March 31, the ZipMobile broke down in the morning as it was closing the ZipperLane, causing widespread gridlock on Oahu well into the evening commute.
The ZipperLane normally increases H-1’s capacity by an additional 2,200 vehicles — or 25 percent — every hour during the morning commute, according to the DOT.
