Statewide flash-flood watch in effect through late Friday night

A composite radar image showed heavy rain moving over parts of Hawaii island

A flash-flood watch is in effect for Hawaii through late Friday night, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather service advisory, issued at 4 p.m., said “deep tropical moisture will spread over the entire state, bringing the potential for flash-flooding.”

The tropical moisture could bring potential for flash-flooding into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said a low forming near Kauai Friday will shift the majority of heavy rain to Kauai and Oahu Friday night and remain over the western islands through the weekend. The rainy weather will continue into early next week before trade winds return by midweek, they said.

A flood advisory is also in effect for the island of Oahu until 10 p.m. and for Maui until 9:15 p.m.

The National Weather Service said radar just before 7 p.m. indicated heavy rain over Oahu increasing in coverage and intensity.

Forecasters also said heavy rain could cause minor flooding affecting most of Maui.

The advisories may be extended if heavy rain persists.
