Video shows wife’s last moments in Facebook killer case

Defendant Derek Medina sat in Miami-Dade court totday for opening statements in his murder trial

MIAMI » A Florida jury has been shown a surveillance video depicting the final moments of a young woman’s life before she is fatally shot by her husband, who later posted a photo of her body on Facebook.

The video was played today in the trial of Derek Medina. It shows no sign of the physical attack he claims led him to shoot 27-year-old Jennifer Alfonso in self-defense. The video from a camera inside their South Miami home does not show the entire confrontation, nor the fatal shooting in the kitchen.

Medina says Alfonso was punching and shoving him forcefully. Earlier today, two police officers testified they saw no injuries on Medina, and police photos showed no marks.

Medina faces life in prison if convicted of first-degree murder in the 2013 death.
