Big Isle man, 31, charged with manslaughter in fatal affray
A 31-year-old Mountain View man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with the death of a 49-year-old Hilo man.
Police charged Kallen Imade Wednesday night in connection with the death of Alfred Vea.
Imade was being held in the Hilo police cellblock until his initial court appearance today. His bail was set at $250,000.
At 11:30 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a report of an unconscious man in a parking lot on the 100 block of Hema Street. Witnesses told police that the two men were involved in an altercation and Imade had left the scene.
Vea was taken to Hilo Medical Center with a head injury. He was later flown to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition.
Imade turned himself into police Tuesday morning and arrested on suspicion of assault.

Police said Vea was pronounced dead at 10:34 a.m. Wednesday. An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted today to determine the exact cause of death.
