Shuttered seafood restaurant reopens
Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood Market at Ala Moana Center’s Makai Market food court reopened for business today, four days after the state Department of Health ordered it to shut down for food safety violations.
A manager who did not identify herself confirmed that the restaurant had reopened this morning, at the owner’s direction, but said she had no details of how the permission to reopen came about.
She declined to reveal the name of the owner or any contact information.
A health department news release last week discussing the closure said inspections of Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood market revealed “chronic temperature violations,” as foods that are required by law to be stored at temperatures below 41 degrees, were not being properly refrigerated.
The restaurant was fined $9,000, was ordered to display only the second red placard issued in Hawaii, and was closed Friday.
Paalaa Kai Bakery in Waialua, the first red placard recipient in state history, was shut down Oct. 7, was found to have reopened without authorization, and was fined $22,000.
