The next time the Pacific (Ore.) and Occidental (Calif.) football teams play will be in paradise.

Following the Boxers’ 41-23 win Saturday, the two schools have agreed to play next year’s nonconference football game in Hawaii at a site to be determined.

Pacific (Ore.) coach Keith Buckley said the game is set for Sept. 17 but the location has not been finalized.

Aloha Stadium is available with the University of Hawaii football team scheduled to play a road game that weekend.

“I haven’t seen the paperwork on it yet, so I’m a little hesitant to announce (the site),” Buckley said Tuesday.

Buckley’s Boxers are off to a 2-1 start after coming back from an early 13-0 deficit to defeat Occidental.

Quarterback Warner Shaw (Kamehameha-Hawaii ’12) was 24-for-34 for 308 yards and three touchdowns.

One of those TD throws went to running back Bronson Barretto (Kamehameha ’12), who had a huge game. Barretto rushed for 112 yards and two touchdowns and had four receptions for 44 yards and the one score to finish with three touchdowns in the game.

Kamana Pimental (Saint Louis ’12) also rushed for a touchdown and finished with 49 yards on 12 carries for the Boxers, who rolled up 436 total yards.

Defensive back Max Look (‘Iolani ’14) and linebacker Trey Kodama (Kamehameha ’12) had four tackles apiece, while defensive back Kaiea Iwasaki (Kauai ’14) had three solo tackles.

Buckley’s defensive coordinator is Saint Louis alum Marc Moody, and the Boxers list 28 players from Hawaii on their roster. Hanalani alumnus P.J. Minaya serves as the wide receivers coach.

Occidental is led by former Kahuku coach and University of Hawaii assistant Doug Semones, who is in his third year as Tigers head coach.

Semones’ QB coach at Occidental is Saint Louis alum and former Mililani and Crusaders coach Darnell Arceneaux.

Occidental lists two Hawaii players on its roster: defensive back Chaz Shizumuru (Punahou ’13) and defensive lineman Max Vinci (Castle ’14).

‘Iolani teammates tie in Oregon

Just a few months after graduating from ‘Iolani together, Portland State’s Keilyn Ing and Brigham Young’s Rose Huang finished tied in 27th place in the Rose City Collegiate, hosted by the Vikings, on Tuesday.

Both golfers finished the tournament at 12-over 228.

Ing posted her best round in the afternoon on Monday when she shot a 3-under 69. She made seven birdies, including five on the front nine, to help the Vikings shoot their best team score in any round of the six years they have hosted the tournament.

Huang played consistently through all three rounds, closing with a 4-over 76 on Tuesday.

It was only the second collegiate tournament for both. BYU finished fourth in the team standings, while Portland State was eighth.

Yanagi named player of the week

Whitworth (Wash.) sophomore Aaron Yanagi, a 2014 ‘Iolani graduate, was named the Northwest Conference men’s soccer defensive student-athlete of the week on Tuesday.

Yanagi assisted on two of the Pirates’ three goals last week and helped extend Whitworth’s consecutive shutout streak to four.

The Pirates held Puget Sound to one shot in 90 minutes and Yanagi assisted on a goal in the 27th minute to help Whitworth beat the Loggers 2-0.

Yanagi wasted no time against Pacific Lutheran, assisting on the only goal of the game in the third minute for a 1-0 victory over the Lutes.

Yanagi has started all eight matches for the undefeated Pirates, who have only given up two goals the entire season.
