A 20-year-old Waipahu man accused of stealing more than $60,000 worth of goods from five jewelry stores and a pawnshop is scheduled to enter a plea today.
Brock Teixeira has been charged with three counts of first-degree theft and three counts of second-degree theft. First-degree theft is a Class B felony, punishable by 10 years in prison.
Teixeira was being held at Oahu Community Correctional Center in lieu of $145,000 bail.
According to court documents, Teixeira stole property worth more than $20,000 on three occasions: from Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry at Pearlridge Center on Aug. 6, Lono God of Peace in Waikiki on July 30 and Royal Jewelry on July 23.
He also took property worth more than $300 at a Zales store Aug. 4, Castle Gold in Kalihi on July 28 and Waipahu Hawaii Pawn on March 28, court documents said.
A source said Teixeira committed the theft by asking to see merchandise, then fleeing with the property.
Pat Breeden, owner of Royal Hawaiian Heritage Jewelry, said that in the Aug. 6 incident a man entered his store and said to a saleswoman, “Let me see the most expensive thing you got.”
The saleswoman was showing the man two items when he grabbed a case containing eight gold Hawaiian bracelets and ran out of the store, Breeden said.
Breeden estimated the value of the eight bracelets at $26,000 to $36,000. Some of the bracelets were 22 millimeters thick and worth about $5,000.
Breeden said the man, later identified as Teixeira, was seen jumping into a BMW and fleeing.
Police found Teixeira about two hours later near Pearl City Shopping Center and arrested him for investigation of theft.
Breeden said police recovered four of the eight bracelets. A couple of them were found on the arm of a woman in Teixeira’s car and along with cash inside the vehicle. Breeden said Teixeira sold some of the bracelets before he was captured.
Teixeira has been in custody since his arrest in August. He will appear before Circuit Judge Richard Perkins today to enter a plea for the cases involving Royal Jewelry, Zales and Castle Gold. He previously pleaded not guilty in the other three thefts.
Teixeira, a former Pearl City High School quarterback, has a standing record at the school for the most passing yards (365) in a game, obtaining the record during a 2012 win against Waialua, according to Hawaii Prep World.
