BALTIMORE » Police and school officials say a football player at a Baltimore high school has been charged with attempted murder after he beat a teammate in an attack captured on video and posted online.

Police say the 17-year-old student at Frederick Douglass High attacked his teammate in the cafeteria about noon Wednesday after asking the teammate if he stole his football helmet visor.

The Baltimore Sun, quoting charging documents, says the student began punching his teammate in the face. The documents say the youth suffered a concussion, broken nose and other injuries to his head and face.

Baltimore City Public School officials say the injured teen was taken to Shock Trauma and later transferred to the University of Maryland Medical Center. His name was not released, and his condition Thursday night was unknown.
