‘Hawaii Five-0’ filming to shut H-3 lanes next week

State transportation officials will close the Kaneohe-bound lanes of the H-3 freeway Aug. 19 so the CBS drama "Hawaii Five-0" can shoot stunt-driving scenes for an upcoming episode.
The Department of Transportation will close all Kaneohe-bound lanes from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Honolulu police officers will block on-ramps to keep drivers off the freeway.
Halawa-bound lanes will remain open, but motorists traveling in that direction will not be allowed to stop or slow down to watch the production.
Crews will film on the freeway and a helicopter will shoot some aerial scenes, all of which will be used in this season’s fifth episode, according to a spokeswoman for "Five-0."
The freeway’s Kaneohe-bound lanes are lightly used at that hour, said Tim Sakahara, transportation spokesman.

"Certainly there will be an impact on traffic and drivers but during these hours the thought is it will hopefully be a minimal impact," he said.
Afternoon commuters should not be affected, Sakahara said.
"We didn’t want to do anything later than 3 o’clock," he said. "For that stretch of roadway 3 o’clock should suffice."
"Five-0" is filming its sixth season, which will premiere at Sunset on the Beach on Sept. 12 and on network television on Sept. 25.
State officials closed H-3 in 2010 when the makers of the film "Battleship" used it for scenes.
