A 37-year-old Lawai man died Monday after being struck by a white sport utility vehicle in Nawiliwili, police said.

About 1:45 a.m. Monday, the crash happened near the Kalapaki seawall along Nawiliwili Park. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Kauai Police Department.

The man’s name was not released pending notification of family.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

Police said the SUV driver, 34, was in custody. He has not been charged.
