McCully area apartment building fire tallies $300K in damage

A fire to that displaced 10 people in McCully Saturday caused about $300,000 in damage to a five-unit apartment building, and singed three other buildings, a fire official said. 

The cause of the 6:14 p.m. fire at the wooden structure, 1737 Waiola St., is still under investigation, Honolulu Fire Capt. James Todd. 

A firefighter who sustained minor injuries at the scene was taken to a hospital, Todd said. No other injuries were reported.

The fire resulted in about $240,000 in damage to the structure and $60,000 to its contents. Three other, neighboring structures sustained a total of about $12,000 in damage, Todd said Sunday.

The blaze appeared to have started in a downstairs unit, according to witnesses.
