Rockpoint Group and BlackSand Capital have plans to turn the OHANA Waikiki West on Kuhio Avenue into an upscale property by modernizing all guest rooms

Hilton Worldwide will transform the Ohana Waikiki West into Hawaii’s first Hilton Garden Inn hotel.

The 623-room hotel will open in early 2016 after extensive renovation.

The Hilton Garden Inn, at 2330 Kuhio Ave., will be managed by Evolution Hospitality according to an announcement by the Virginia-based hospitality company.

Hilton operates other Hilton Garden Inn-branded hotels on the mainland.

“This hotel development marks a significant milestone for Hilton Worldwide as we expand our presence and diversify our accommodations options in Hawaii,” said Bill Fortier, Hilton senior vice president for development in the Americas, in a statement.

Redevelopment of the Ohana Waikiki West, built in 1970, already is underway.

Guest rooms will be redeveloped to include family suites at poolside, and maximization of view planes.

Hilton Garden Inn Waikiki Beach is the only Hawaii property listed on the Evolution Hospitality website, making it appear that the property will represent Evolution’s entree into the Hawaii market.
