LOS ANGELES » Authorities say a man whose ex-girlfriend worked at Universal Studios in Hollywood has shot himself to death inside the park.

Nobody else was hurt in the Friday afternoon shooting, which took place in a smoking area near the "Despicable Me Minion Mayhem" ride.

City News Service says a waitress in a park restaurant called authorities after seeing her boyfriend, who had two restraining orders against him.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s Lt. Eddie Hernandez says a deputy spotted the man, who pulled a gun and shot himself even though the deputy tried to talk him out of hurting himself.

The park remained open.

Hernandez says while the park checks bags, it doesn’t routinely use metal detectors on entering guests.
