With Diana Ross’ first-ever concert on Maui nearly sold out before tickets were even made available to the general public, the singer and her promoter have added a second show a night later.

Tickets for the June 14 show at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center went on sale to MACC members only on Sunday and promoter Rick Bartalini said almost all of the 1,229 seats were sold, prompting him to add a show at 7:30 p.m. on June 15. Tickets for the added show go on sale to MACC members at 10 a.m. Tuesday (today). Go to mauiarts.org or call (808) 243-4236 for membership information.

Sales to the general public for both Maui shows start Friday at 10 a.m. Ticket prices range from $75 to $250 and will be available at the MACC’s website and box office or by calling (808) 242-7469.

Bartalini said 60 percent of seats available for Ross’ Honolulu show at the Blaisdell Arena on June 13 were sold on Sunday, when they were made available to Hawaii residents only via phone and online sales. 

Bartalini initiated the special presale to avoid a similar situation as last year’s Bruno Mars concert when 42 percent of tickets were bought by out-of-state purchasers.

Ross’ Blaisdell show also starts at 7:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $45 to $225 and can be purchased beginning at 10 a.m. Friday at the Blaisdell box office or ticketmaster.com or by calling (800) 745-3000.

Ross rose to fame in the mid-’60s as lead singer of the Supremes.  She had 12 No. 1 songs with the group — including “Where Did Our Love Go” and “Stop! In the Name of Love” — before striking out on her own and adding six more chart-toppers, including “Upside Down” and her duet with Lionel Richie, “Endless Love.” She has sold more than 50 million albums in America alone.
