Man charged after allegedly setting Ocean View home on fire
A 60-year-old Ocean View man remained in custody Sunday after being charged with burning down his home on Hawaii island.
Martin Molina was charged with first-degree arson and first-degree criminal property damage on Saturday afternoon. His bail was set at $75,000.
About 15 firefighters responded to a two-story structure fire on the south end of Hawaii island about 6 p.m. Friday and extinguished the blaze in about four hours.
The home, located on Pineapple Parkway near Hukilau Drive, was destroyed. The Red Cross was called to assist.
Firefighters said four people lived in the home, but only one man in his 50s was home at the time. He claimed that he started the fire and was arrested by police, firefighters said.
Firefighters estimated the loss at $270,000.
