Waialae Avenue main break also damaged telephone cables

Board of Water Supply crews work to repair a 12-inch main break on Waialae Avenue near 7th Avenue.

Board of Water Supply crews completed repairs on a broken 12-inch water main and reopened Waialae Avenue after repaving the road Wednesday morning.

However, the broken main also damaged Hawaiian Telcom cables and a manhole.

Board of Water Supply crews restored service to 14 business and residential customers at 12:30 a,m,  However,  a water valve on the campus of St. Patrick School on Harding Avenue  malfunctioned, closing the school for the second day.

The damaged Hawaiian Telcom cables caused telephone and Internet outages to about 65 business and residential customers in the area.

Now that the Board of Water Supply crews have finished their work, Hawaiian Telcom crews will begin repairing the manhole and underground cables.

Hawaiian Telcom officials could not immediately say if the work will require additional lane closures.
