A 19-year-old Pacific Palisades man charged with killing his uncle appeared to have bloodstains on his shorts and dried blood on his body when he was arrested about 90 minutes following the stabbing Saturday, according to court records.
Dean Victor Matuu is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing of his uncle Frank Kapesi during an argument Saturday morning in Pacific Palisades. Matuu’s bail was set at $250,000.
Matuu’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Honolulu District Court.
Kapesi, 36, lived with Matuu in an Aumakua Street home, where Kapesi was stabbed just before 5 a.m.
According to a police affidavit filed in District Court, an officer in an unmarked car investigating the stabbing found the suspect, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, sitting at the bus stop at Komo Mai Drive and Aumakua Street.
The officer noticed "little red dots on the right thigh of Matuu’s shorts," which appeared to be dried blood, the affidavit said.
The affidavit also said that there "appeared to be dried blood smeared on Matuu’s right shin, inner ankle area, and between his left ring finger nail and skin what appeared to be dried blood."
Police said the suspect said he had just left his Aumakua Street home and was going to meet his girlfriend and his friends.
While being placed under arrest, Matuu denied killing anyone, the affidavit said.
A witness told police that he heard people arguing, and when he investigated the matter, he found the victim lying on the living room floor and bleeding from wounds to his chest.
Kapesi was taken by ambulance in critical condition to Pali Momi Medical Center, where he died.
