Right lane of H-1 westbound closed between Pearl City and Waipahu offramps
The right lane the H-1 freeway westbound is closed between the Pearl City/Waimalu offramp and the Waipahu offramp, the state Transportation Department advises.
The lane will remain closed until 4:30 a.m., the department said.
The department said the lane closures are necessary for repairs to the concrete deck of the Pearl City Viaduct.
Crews began pouring concrete at 11 p.m. Saturday with a three-lane closure and reduced it to two lanes at 3 a.m., after the pour.
The concrete has strengthened adequately to allow for the opening of an additional lane, the DOT said in a statement Sunday evening.
"We truly appreciate the public’s patience with the traffic generated by these weekend lane closures," said Ed Sniffen, Highways Division deputy director. "Although motorists may not see workers present on the viaduct deck at all times, crews ard working below the deck while the concrete hardens and this curing process is critical to constructing the most durable and long-lasting surface possible."

Motorists are still asked to drive slowly through the area to minimize negative vibration effects on the concrete during the curing process. For more information, call the project hotline at 945-1144.
