1 dead, 1 injured in separate incidents at Red Sand Beach
Maui firefighters and paramedics responded to two separate incidents at Red Sand Beach in Hana Saturday.
The first incident happened at 11:30 a.m. when a 50-year-old man who was hiking with his wife fell 15-feet from the trail that led to the beach. He suffered a broken arm and head trauma, Maui fire officials said.
The man was airlifted and transported to the Hana ball field. He was medevaced to the hospital.
His status is unknown at this time, according to officials.
In the second incident, a 64-year-old man suffered a heart attack around 2:30 p.m. while at the beach. He died at the scene.
His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
