Halloween is over but the scares continue in a newly published ebook of the top entries in the Honolulu Star-Advertiser’s popular Halloween Fiction Contest, 2010-2014, available as a Kindle download.
This "chicken skin" collection comprises spooky stories written by Star-Advertiser readers. Many of the entries were inspired by local folktales, ghost stories and legends, and reflect Hawaii’s rich and diverse cultural past and present.
The collection includes 2014 Halloween Fiction Contest winner, "Kappa" by Irene Tanaka of Mililani.
The story was partially based on Japanese folktales about a child-size river demon known as a prankster who sometimes attacks people.
This year’s second-place winner was Donald Carreira Ching, whose story "Down by the River," tells of young boys who encounter an otherworldly hunter near a river.
The download is free for Kindle Unlimited and Amazon Prime members. Others can purchase the ebook for $2.99 from the Kindle Store at http://hsalinks.com/hsahssc14.
