Hurricane Simon weakening off Mexico’s coast
MIAMI >> Simon is rapidly weakening but remains a hurricane in the Pacific that poses no direct threat to land.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami says Simon’s maximum sustained winds have decreased to 75 mph Sunday. The Category 1 hurricane is expected to continue weakening.
The center says the hurricane is located about 485 miles west of the southern tip of the Baja peninsula and is moving northwest at 9 mph. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect.
Simon is expected to produce up to 4 inches of rain, with isolated amounts of 8 inches, across central portions of the peninsula and in the northwestern Sonora state.
The southern California coast could experience swells Monday and Tuesday.
