City Enterprise Services Director Gerald Saito is leaving Mayor Kirk Caldwell’s Cabinet at the end of October.
Saito, whose department oversees the city’s major moneymaking operations including Blaisdell Center, the Honolulu Zoo, Waikiki Shell and municipal golf courses, wants to return to retirement, Caldwell spokesman Jesse Broder Van Dyke said this week.
Saito, a former Longs Drugs executive, had been in retirement since 2008 when Caldwell selected him to lead the Department of Enterprise Services in 2013.
Caldwell hopes to choose a replacement by the time Saito leaves, Broder Van Dyke said.
Saito is the fourth member of Caldwell’s original Cabinet to depart this year. Pam Witty-Oakland resigned last month as community services director to spend more time with her parents.
Toni Robinson resigned as parks director in March, while Chris Takashige left his post as director of design and construction in May.
Michele Nekota replaced Robinson earlier this year. Robert Kroning is awaiting City Council confirmation to replace Takashige.
