Woman dies after car goes off freeway in Aiea
A five-car accident sent a truck over the guardrail of the H-1 freeway in Aiea, killing a 64-year-old woman Wednesday morning, police said.
The crash happened at about 8:30 a.m. on the town-bound side of H-1, just east of the Kaahumanu Street overpass.
A Dodge pickup truck went over the guard rail of freeway, falling 40 feet and rolling over before coming to rest near the Waimalu concrete drainage ditch at Kaahele Street and Moanalua Road, police said.
Emergency Medical Services said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash crippled the morning commute as police closed the right lanes of the freeway while Traffic Division officers investigated the accident. All lanes were reopened after 1 p.m., according to police.
