From the shores of Mokuleia to the jungle of Waikiki and the verdant valleys of Windward Oahu, 12 hardy souls trekked to all eight locations in our "Get Lost" photo contest celebrating the 10th anniversary of the premiere of the ABC hit television series.
The prize for most creative photos went to Liberty Peralta, 28, of Kaimuki, who said she immediately knew the answers to the clues as she read them in the Today section when the contest was first announced.
"I watched the show so I knew all the locations," Peralta said. "I was a huge ‘Lost’ fan when it was on. I was in college at the time, and I would torture my roommates (by making them watch the show)."
Her prize is $42 — one of Hurley’s cursed numbers — and a Honolulu Star-Advertiser beach towel.
From among the 12 finalists who posted photos of themselves at the eight locations on Instagram using the hashtag #HSAlost, the winner of a separate prize of $42 and four Consolidated Theatres movie passes was determined by a drawing.
The winner of the drawing — Shelley96734 — has yet to be identified (another "Lost" mystery!).
Peralta said she took seven of the eight selfies in one day. After taking her selfie at Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken in Kalihi (clue 7), she decided to put a little extra effort into her selfies with props and lively facial expressions.
"I figured everyone was going to take the same kind of selfie shot," she said. "I wanted to try different stuff." Her favorite selfie, taken at Camp Erdman, where much of "Lost" was filmed, has Peralta on the ground, eyes closed.
"There’s a scene where the Others are all lying on the ground unconscious — that was like a reference," she said.
At the Byodo-In Temple at Valley of the Temples Memorial Park, Peralta held a bouquet and noted on her post: "I caught the bouquet at Jin and Sun’s wedding! ;)"
The other locations: John A. Burns School of Medicine in Kakaako, Aloha Stadium, Waikiki Landmark, Liliha Bakery and Sacred Hearts Academy.
Peralta said the contest was fun and got her out of Honolulu to explore the island.
With only 16 total entrants, everyone gets a prize. If you entered the "Get Lost" contest, email features@staradvertiser.com by Oct. 15 to claim prizes.
