Christopher Blanchard, the head of Easter Seals Hawaii, quietly resigned last month, the nonprofit announced Thursday.

“This change will in no way impact Easter Seals Hawaii’s operations as we continue business as usual, providing excellent care to more than 1,500 families statewide who have disabilities or special needs,” Bill Wilson, Easter Seals board chairman, said in a statement. “We are grateful to Chris for his numerous contributions to our organization. He leaves with our sincere aloha for all he’s done to advance Easter Seals Hawaii’s vital work in in our community.

Blanchard, 57, said his family will be moving to the mainland, one of the main reasons for his resignation on Aug. 15.

“I’ll be moving to spend time with my 90-year-old father in Washington state,” he said. “I just decided to relocate. I think (Easter Seals is) in good shape. They’ve got a nice, strong board of directors and will find a good successor here in short order.”

The former chief of staff for the U.S. Marine Corps joined Easter Seals in January 2013.

A search to fill the president and CEO position will begin shortly, according to the organization, which has been serving special needs children, youth and adults for more than 60 years.
