These closures and cancellations have been announced because of approaching Hurricanes Iselle and Julio:

>> Most Hawaii banks have announced either early bank closures for Thursday or closures on Friday due to the approaching storms.

All eight First Hawaiian Bank branches on Hawaii island closed at 11 a.m. Thursday due to the approaching storm. In addition, all eight First Hawaiian branches in Maui County closed at 2 p.m. Thursday. Oahu and Kauai branches of First Hawaiian Bank will be closed Friday due to Hurricane Iselle. Bank officials will reopen branches on Maui, Lanai and Hawaii island from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday subject to local conditions, according to a new statement released Thursday. First Hawaiian Bank branches offering Saturday banking on all islands are expected to open for business as usual.

Bank of Hawaii closed all 11 of its branches on Hawaii island 11 a.m. Thursday and all 14 branches in Maui County at 2 p.m. Thursday. On Friday, Bank of Hawaii will close all of its isle branches. The bank’s Call Center in Kapolei will remain open and minimally staffed until further notice. Online and ATM services will continue until power outages occur. The bank will post additional updates on its Facebook page, which is viewable to people who do not have a Facebook account. Branches will reopen when operations are determined to be safe for employees and the public.

Both of Central Pacific Bank’s branches on Hawaii island closed at noon Thursday. Central Pacific also closed all four of its Maui branches at 2 p.m. The bank announced later Thursday that branches across the state will be closed Friday. Possible operating hours on Saturday will be determined following the storm’s passage. The bank’s ATMs and online banking service will remain operational, depending on electricity, and customer service representatives will continue to be available at 544-0500 or toll-free at 1-800-342-8422.

American Savings Bank will close all branches statewide Friday because of Hurricanes Iselle and Julia, the bank announced Thursday afternoon. Branches on Hawaii island, Maui and Molokai closed at 4 p.m. Thursday. ATMs, online and mobile banking will remain accessible.

Territorial Savings Bank and Ohana Pacific Bank are closing all their branches on Friday. 

>> Hawaii County offices will close at noon Thursday and remain closed all day Friday. Essential employees whose work involves crucial operations and services will remain on the job.

>> All Hawaii County parks and beach parks are closed until further notice.

>> All Hawaii County solid waste transfer stations and both the Hilo and Puuanahulu Landfills will close at noon on Thursday.

>> Senior nutrition programs and elderly recreation program activities are canceled Thursday and Friday. Van service provided by Coordinated Services for the Elderly has been suspended for Thursday and Friday.

>> Democrats have canceled their traditional election eve rally in Hilo.

>> Mayor Alan Arakawa has declared a state of emergency for the entire County of Maui. The county will suspend Maui bus service. The state of emergency extends until further notice, the mayor says.

All county swimming pools will close at noon Thursday; Waiehu Golf Course will issue final tee times at noon Thursday and remain closed until further notice; all camping sites will be closed Thursday to Sunday; all community centers will be closed starting at noon Thursday; all county beach parks will be closed starting Thursday; and all other county parks will be closed from noon Thursday.

>> The Summit and Kipahulu Districts of Haleakala National Park will close at noon Thursday. The park will not open for sunrise viewing on Friday.

>> The Lihue Sunshine Market will not be held on Friday. The market will resume at its usual time, 3 p.m., Aug. 15 at the Vidinha Stadium parking lot.

>> Hawaiian Mission Houses rescheduled two performances of "The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)." Performances originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday will take place on Aug. 17 and 21. Other performances planned for Aug. 15, 16, 22 and 23 will take place as scheduled. Those holding reservations for Friday or Saturday are asked to contact Lisa Solomine at 447-3926 to reschedule.

>> The Battleship Missouri Memorial, and the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center will be closed Friday.

>> Queen Ka’ahumanu Center in Kahului will close at 3 p.m. Thursday. Friday’s regularly scheduled farmers’ market and all weekend stage events have been canceled.

>> The state Board of Land and Natural Resources meeting scheduled for Friday has been canceled. Items on the agenda will be deferred to the Aug. 22 meeting.

>> The Department of Land and Natural Resources has closed all state parks on Hawaii island, Maui and Molokai. Also closed are forest reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, natural area reserves, forest hiking trails, and game management areas on Hawaii island and Maui.

Also closed is the Manoa Falls trail to hiking and Peacock Flats to hiking and camping.

All state parks on Oahu will be closed by 7:45 p.m. Thursday (Diamond Head will close at 6 p.m.) Scheduled to be closed on Oahu by 6 a.m. Thursday are state forest reserves, natural area reserves, wildlife sanctuaries and game management (public hunting) areas, and Na Ala Hele Trails. State forest camping areas will be closed. No camping and hunting permits will be issued.

By 6 p.m. Thursday, Kauai camping areas, including Waimea Canyon, Alakai Wilderness, Sugi Grove and Kawaikoi will be closed. The Division of State Parks also closed Napali Coast State Wilderness Park and the Kalalau trail. State parks, state forest reserves, natural area reserves, wildlife sanctuaries and game management (public hunting) areas, and Na Ala Hele Trails on Kauai will also be closed.

>> State offices in Maui County (Maui, Molokai and Lanai) will close at noon Thursday, and remain closed all day Friday.

>> State courthouses and judiciary offices on Hawaii island and Maui County will be closed beginning at noon on Thursday through Friday. The closures include the Children’s Justice Centers, Offices of the Public Guardian, and Driver’s Education Offices on Hawaii Island and Maui County. In addition, Drivers Education classes scheduled on Maui County for Thursday will be canceled. Family Court hearings scheduled at the Molokai Courthouse on Thursday and Friday will be rescheduled to Aug. 28 and 29.

>> All public schools on Hawaii island and in Maui County will be closed Thursday and Friday. All interscholastic athletic events and student activities are canceled at those schools.

>> All Kamehameha Schools educational programs and offices, including the campus at Keaau, KS Preschools islandwide, Resource Centers in West and East Hawaii, will be closed Thursday and Friday

Also closed on Thursday will be Kamehameha Schools educational programs and offices on Maui and Molokai, including the campus at Pukalani, KS Preschools on both islands, and the Resource Centers in Wailuku and at the Kulana ‘Oiwi Complex.

On Friday, Kamehameha’s Kapalama campus and all Oahu preschools will be closed.

>> Punahou School will be closed Friday.

>> Cole Academy preschools will be closed Friday.

>> The Remington College graduation ceremony at the Hawai’i Convention Center originally scheduled for Friday will be moved to Sept. 19.

>> Hawaii Community College and the UH Center, West Hawaii, will be closed Thursday and Friday. All scheduled activities are canceled. All campus operations are expected to resume on Monday.

>> The University of Hawaii at Hilo will be closed Thursday and Friday. All scheduled activities are canceled.

>> UH Maui College and its Education Centers in Hana, Lahaina and on Molokai and Lanai will close at noon Thursday and Friday. Weekend operations are suspended

>> Hawai’i Pacific University will close its campuses Friday and Saturday. The closures include HPU’s downtown and Hawaii Loa campuses, the Oceanic Institute of HPU at Makapuu Point, and all military base locations.

>>TheBus and Handi-Van will not be in service Friday. Starting at 10 p.m. Thursday, TheBus will operate as a shuttle, providing free rides to passengers going to Oahu hurricane shelters. For details, go to thebus.org.
