No tsunami threat from strong earthquake near Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska >> Seismologists say a strong earthquake rattled a section of Alaska and Canada’s Yukon Territory.
The Alaska Earthquake Center says the 6.0 magnitude quake struck at 3:49 a.m.(1:49 a.m. Hawaii time) about 62 miles northwest of Yakutat. There are no immediate reports of damage and no tsunami warnings or alerts were issued.
The quake was felt in Yakutat, as well as Whitehorse in the Yukon. Yakutat is a Gulf of Alaska community about 45 miles southwest of the Canada border.
