Honolulu police catch suspect in fatal shooting in Kahaluu

Honolulu police arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 65-year-old man after a manhunt on Sunday afternoon.

He was held on suspicion of second-degree murder after his arrest on Lamaula Road in Kaneohe at 6:30 p.m., police said.

The shooting occurred about 12:15 p.m. near Kamehameha Highway and Waihee Road in Kahaluu.

The victim was shot in the head inside a house in the area, officials said. Police said the suspect also threatened to shoot a 36-year-old man and stole a wallet from a 17-year-old boy.

Police teams scoured the area on foot and by air into the evening.

They issued a traffic alert just before 3 p.m. and lifted it just after 5 p.m.

Emergency Medical Services said ambulance crews responded to Waihee Road at about 12:15 p.m. after a man in his 60s suffered critical injuries from a gunshot wound.

The man later died at the hospital at 7:15 p.m., police said.
