Miss Paradise Kauai Stephanie Steuri was crowned Miss Hawaii 2014 Saturday night at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

Steuri, 20, who also won the swimsuit and talent competitions, beat 14 other contestants to win the 68th annual scholarship pageant. She is a biology student at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.

The first runner-up was Miss Waikiki Ka‘iulani Carr.

Also among the top five finalists were Miss Kona Coffee Jeanne Kapela, second runner-up; Miss Diamond Head Chelsea Clement, third runner-up, and Miss East Oahu Kelly Simek, fourth runner-up.

A panel of seven judges scored the contestants on their appearance (swimsuit and evening gown), talent, performance during a private interview earlier in the week, and their ability to stay on point while answering a question on stage.

Miss Na Hawai‘iki Lei Ui Kaholokula was the recipient of the Children’s Miracle Network Miracle Maker Award and the golf tournament scholarship.

The congeniality award and the $1,000 academic scholarship went to Miss North Shore Brittany Atiburcio.

The First Hawaiian Bank community service award went to Simek.

Miss Chinatown Jessica Cheng won a trip to Las Vegas. The Most Photogenic Award, based on nearly 15,000 online votes, went to Miss Kahala Gabriella Sheindlin.

Steuri won the talent competion with a dance number.

Dancing dominated the talent competition among the 10 finalists, with five hulas, one of them Tahitian and one hapa haole. Miss Aloha Hawaii Alyssa Ishihara performed a piano solo, Kaholokula sang, and Simek twirled a baton.

The seven finalists included Kaholokula and Celina Hayashi, Miss Valley Isle.
