Man bludgeoned in robbery outside Kailua-Kona restaurant
Hawaii County police arrested two Kona men in a robbery in which one of the two victims was bludgeoned Tuesday morning.
Police said one of the suspects approached the two victims, Kailua-Kona men ages 25 and 23, who were acquaintances of the suspect. Using a blunt object, he allegedly struck the 25-year-old in the head, arms and legs and stole both their backpacks at 1:57 a.m. outside a restaurant on Henry Street in Kailua-Kona.
The suspect fled in a black sedan driven by a second man, police said.
The 25-year-old man was taken to Kona Community Hospital with serious head injuries, and was later flown to Honolulu and transferred to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Police arrested a 43-year-old man, who was driving a car matching the description of the getaway car, on a bench warrant, and was later charged with violating probation. Detectives arrested him at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday on suspicion of robbery.
Police arrested a 28-year-old man at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of robbery.
