Science stars in summer reading program
With summer just around the corner, it’s time to pull out the beach toys and crack open a book.
The Hawaii State Public Library System’s annual six-week summer reading program will take place June 1 through July 12. Registration, which is free, begins Tuesday.
The program is open to children in preschool through sixth grade, as well as teens and adults. Participants who read at least one book per week and visit their local library will receive a free weekly incentive, while supplies last.
Libraries throughout the state will also be offering free prize drawings and family-friendly performance programs this summer. The children’s summer reading program, themed "Fizz, Boom, Read," focuses on exploring all things related to science.
The "Touch-A Truck" event takes place at 10 a.m. May 31 at Mililani Public Library. Children of all ages, accompanied by a parent or caregiver, are invited to register for the reading program, then visit a variety of trucks in the library’s parking lot and participate in science-related activities inside.
