Nobody at Hans L’Orange Park had the heart to tell Waialua that its season was over because of rain, so Monday’s suspended game will resume on Tuesday at Waialua.
Nanakuli and Waialua played five innings on Tuesday with Nanakuli leading 4-3 before players were waved off the field and out of the rain.
In the regular season, a complete game is five innings, but this had way more riding on it.
The winner goes to states as the OIA’s third berth in Division II. The loser’s season ends.
The resumption of the game will be at 3:30 at Waialua. Caelen Alejandro is on the mound for Waialua opposing Nanakuli’s Brayden Ramilla.
The Golden Hawks lead the Bulldogs 4-3 after five innings.
The White title game between Radford and Waianae that was to follow the Waialua-Nanakuli game was rained out and will be played Tuesday at the Waianae High field beginning at 4 p.m.
Nanakuli jumped on Waialua immediately, with Shayne Serai hitting a triple into the gap in left field to drive in Josh Lincoln, who made it to second base on an error by Waialua’s shortstop.
Serai scored Nanakuli’s second run of the inning, when Ronson Vea singled to second base.
Waialua starter Joshua Moniz struck out the next two batters to strand two runners and get his team into the dugout only down two runs.
Nanakuli scored another run in the third, when Serai singled Lincoln home from third.
Those three runs appeared to be enough as Ramilla got through the first two innings with a perfect game.
Waialua struck in the third, though, after the Nanakuli third baseman made errors on the first two batters, leading to two runs.
Nanakuli scored one more in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Ramilla, but Waialua matched it in the bottom of the inning on a double by Branigan Lee.

The Sabers beat the MIL regular-season champion Bears for the league’s tournament title at Iron Maehara Stadium on Monday.
Maui and Baldwin have both qualified for the D-I state tournament. They play again Tuesday for the overall league title.
