Entertainer Danny Kaleikini pleaded not guilty to a drunken driving charge, but his attorney said they will not fight the charge.
Attorney Paul Cunney appeared in Honolulu District Court on Monday morning on behalf of Kaleikini, 76. Police arrested Kaleikini at about 11:45 p.m. April 4 on suspicion of driving under the influence of an intoxicant, a petty misdemeanor.
Police pulled him over near Kilauea and Pahoa avenues in Kahala. Kaleikini was the sole occupant of the vehicle. He was released on $500 bail.
Kaleikini’s blood-alcohol level was 0.087, according to his attorney. In combination with his heart medication, Cunney said, "I think it probably just threw him off a little bit."
The legal threshold for drunken driving is 0.08.
Cunney said he will seek a plea agreement with the prosecutor’s office.
"We’re not going to fight the case," he said. "He’s taking responsibility."
Kaleikini’s driver’s license has been revoked for a year starting Monday.
