A 29-year-old Makakilo man convicted of murdering and dismembering his business partner in a Makakilo indoor marijuana-growing operation was sentenced Friday to life in prison with the possibility of parole plus 30 years.

Before his sentencing in Circuit Court, Joshua Williams pleaded with Judge Karen Ahn for leniency, saying the slaying was committed in self-defense and that another man killed 24-year-old Jamil Khan.

"I’ve cooperated from the beginning, but even with that, nobody was happy," he said, his voice rising as he appeared to fight back tears. "You couldn’t accept my truth. What more do you want?"

Williams was found guilty in September 2011 of murdering Khan, whose body was dismembered and thrown in the trash in April 2010, according to statements Williams made to the police. The remains have never been found.

Hawaii Paroling Authority will set Williams’ minimum term for the life sentence.

His attorney is appealing the conviction.
