Trekkel.com

This website service is a city primer and itinerary planning tool that considers the way you like to travel.

» What it does: Pick a city, and then adjust the slider bar to measure your interest in 12 travel topics such as Iconic Landmarks, Killer Views, Nature’s Wonders and Shopping’s My Game. Trekkel returns its top picks. Then toggle between pics for what to do, where to sleep, eat, shop — or all of the above. You can filter by dates, budget, ratings and more.

» What’s hot: You’ll discover parts of a city to explore that you might not know about. Sure, some of the suggestions are mainstream, but I found things to do in my own city I hadn’t heard of. If you want to test its destination data-crunching superpowers — click on the "Offbeat" category to see what it comes up with. I got more out of the site once I registered (free), and I was able to start building a trip itinerary that I could share with my friends.

» What’s not: The pop-up window of "Trekkel Top Picks" was annoying. After I looked at one of the travel categories (family activities) and wanted to jump back to check out other recommendations such as "Top Places to Eat!" or "Top Places to Pamper You!" the pop-up box didn’t load when I hit the back button (tested on MacBook Pro Plus Chrome). I hit refresh for the pop-up window of options to return, but it was a turnoff to do that each time I wanted to view a new category.
