Man charged in Waianae car dragging case
A 48-year-old man was charged Thursday with attempting to murder two people in a Waianae parking lot earlier this week after he allegedly hit them with his car, dragging a man four blocks.
Miguel Torres, who told police he had no local address, was charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder and two counts of second degree attempted murder Thursday night. His bail was set at $200,000.
Torres is accused of running into a 35-year-old man and his 18-year-old female companion in the parking lot of the Waimaha housing public housing complex on McArthur street at 6:45 a.m. Monday. The victim was dragged for four blocks until he fell from the under carriage of Torres’ car on Mill street near Tamura Superette.
The victim was taken to Queen’s Medical Center. The 18-year-old woman was treated at Waianae Comprehensive Health Center and released.
The suspect fled and was captured Wednesday morning in Kalihi.
Torres has been convicted of 10 misdemeanors, ranging from abuse to theft and drunken driving, starting from 1988.
