The gusty winds that blew down trees on Oahu have eased and are shifting to the south as a new cold front moves in from the northwest. Rain is expected this weekend.

Forecasters this morning canceled a flash flood watch for Hawaii island and Maui County as heavy rains overnight moved away. However, a flash flood advisory was posted for Hawaii island at 2:19 p.m. through 5:15 p.m. today after weather officials observed an area of heavy rain holding nearly stationary 34 miles southeast of Hilo.

Forecasters say we can expect vog and humid conditions by Friday as the moist Kona winds blow volcanic haze from the Big Island over other islands.

The hazy conditions will continue through the weekend.

Rain is also in the forecast this weekend as the front moves over the state.

The rain is expected to move over Kauai and Oahu by Friday night and over Maui County Saturday afternoon.

Southwest winds over Oahu and Kauai Saturday will be gusty.

The front is expected to stall near Maui, bringing the threat of showers into next week.

The forecast for Honolulu today calls for mostly to partly sunny skies with light winds and isolated showers.
