An influx of box jellyfish prompted the City to close Hanauma Bay Saturday.

According to Ocean Safety spokeswoman Shayne Enright, lifeguards counted over 50 box jellyfish onshore and more than 30 people were stung.

Ocean Safety officials will re-evaluate the beach Sunday to determine if it should be closed another day.

Beachgoers going to other south shore beaches on Oahu should also exercise caution.
