House mulls letting breastfeeding moms skip juries
A state House committee plans to debate a bill that would exempt breastfeeding mothers from jury duty.
The bill is part of a package of measures from the Women’s Legislative Caucus, a group of women who are lawmakers in the Senate and House.
The House Health Committee is scheduled to hear the bill Thursday.
The bill says women shouldn’t have to worry about having to feed while in a courtroom. The measure says the state shouldn’t expect mothers to have access to breast pumps and other supplies.
The measure would limit the exemption to up to one year from when the mother began breastfeeding.
