Golfer killed by falling tree branch identified
The Medical Examiner’s office has identified the 55-year-old Japanese visitor who died Wednesday at Leilehua Golf Course after being hit on the head by a tree branch as Shigeru Iwamoto.
An autopsy will be done on Iwamoto, of Katata, Japan, to determine cause of death.
The incident occurred at 11:45 a.m. in Wahiawa while the man was golfing on the first tee. Paramedics took the man to a hospital where he died.
The golf course was closed until further notice, and the matter is being investigated, according to the Army, which owns and operates the facility.
