KULA, Maui » Ocean Vodka, the newest entry in Maui’s agritourism circuit, is offering sampling tours at its 80-acre grounds on the lower elevations of Haleakala.
The solar-powered craft distillery, at 4051 Omaopio Road, uses certified organic sugar cane and Kona deep-ocean mineral water to produce gluten-free vodka.
Tours are offered daily on the half-hour from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Cost is $10 ($25 with lunch), which includes sampling and a souvenir Ocean Vodka shot glass for those 21 and older.
Visitors can also enjoy a gift shop and a "martini garden" in the shape of an orchid. Lavender, basil, strawberry and other herbs and fruit are grown there, and the grounds also feature small stands of more than 20 varieties of sugar cane.
A large lawn area is available to host barbecues and other events.
Ocean Vodka, the exclusive vodka served on Hawaiian Airlines since 2007, is available in 36 states and in Canada. The suggested retail price is $32.99 for a 750 ml bottle.
