Honolulu police are looking for an unidentified man they suspect is a serial rapist who has allegedly attacked at least three women in their Honolulu apartments from May to December.
Criminal Investigation Division Maj. Richard Robinson said this is the first such "series" Honolulu has had since the Mililani rapes of the late 1990s and called it "a very rare occurrence" in Honolulu.
"I’m very confident we will bring it to an end very, very rapidly," he said at a news conference Tuesday.
Robinson said investigation by police has led them to believe it is the same person since the descriptions and behavior are similar, and the victims have all been attacked at their homes in the Aala and Keeaumoku areas.
However, the descriptions of the suspects range from 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet 3 inches, and 175 to 250 pounds.
Police Chief Louis Kealoha made the plea Tuesday for anyone with information concerning the suspect, and offered safety tips.
In Sunday’s case a man allegedly forced his way into a woman’s Cedar Street apartment at 11:30 a.m. and sexually assaulted her. He is described as being 20 to 30 years of age, about 5 feet 10 inches to 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds, with curly black hair and a dark complexion.
A June 14 CrimeStoppers bulletin said that at about 4 a.m. June 13, a man in his 30s allegedly entered through the sliding door of an Aala Street apartment while the resident was asleep and sexually assaulted her. That man was described as 5 feet 10 inches tall, 175 pounds and wearing a dark red shirt and khaki cargo pants.
At about 10:25 a.m. May 28, a man in his 20s approached a woman from behind as she tried to enter her Ahana Street apartment, according to CrimeStoppers. He allegedly struck her, causing her to fall to the ground, then sexually assaulted her and fled in an unknown direction. That man was described as 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 250 pounds, with short, spiky black hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on these cases is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cellphone.
