The 46-year-old man suspected of killing Alexis Gonzales, whose dismembered body was found Sept. 15 off Mililani Memorial Park Road in Waipio, is facing extradition from California to answer to murder charges in Hawaii.

A U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force assisted in arresting Bryan Suitt at 3:45 p.m. Monday at his family’s residence on Coronado Island in San Diego, according to the U.S. Marshall Service in Hawaii.

The suspect was booked at the San Diego County Jail on Monday and will later face a California state court extradition hearing so he can be returned to Hawaii to face the murder charge, the marshals office said.

On Nov. 26, an Oahu grand jury indicted the Suitt on suspicion of second-degree murder.

The suspect is being held on a grand jury warrant bail set at $5 million, police said.

Gonzales’ dismembered and decomposing body was found on Sept. 15 in a ravine off Mililani Memorial Park Cemetery Road in Waipio by Waianae couple Joseph and Sheer Sotelo, who were looking for cans and bottles near the road.

The Honolulu Police Department asked the U.S. Marshals Service for help, since Suitt lives on the mainland.

Police have not revealed a motive for the killing.

Gonzales had an auto theft conviction, as well as misdemeanor convictions for harassment and drunken driving.

Gonzales, known by most as “Gonzo,” moved in with friends in Kalihi about two months before his death, his former girlfriend Rachel Main told the Star-Advertiser on Sept. 19 through a Facebook message.

Gonzales’ Facebook indicated that he was from Long Beach and that his mother lives on Kauai and he has a sister in California.
