Reusables become keiki art
Kids can make a contribution to the Thanksgiving table this year by showcasing the earth-friendly works of art they create at the Art Explorium’s Thanksgiving decor workshop Nov. 17.
With reusable materials such as plastic bags and donated materials, keiki will be able to make beautiful and creative centerpieces like turkeys and cornucopia, or anything else they desire.
Instructing the workshop is creative crafter Tiare Yamura of Twinkles and Sprinkles, which holds after-school classes at Waikiki Elementary School.
The workshop, scheduled for 1 to 2:30 p.m., is open to children of all ages, although kids 5 and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $15 per student.

Hanahau‘oli festival returns
"Voyaging Together" is this year’s theme of the annual Hanahau‘oli School Children’s Fair on Nov. 16, with displays and activities by the Polynesian Voyaging Society.
The fair, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature a country store and farmers market, pony rides, a climbing wall, face painting and keiki crafts, along with ono grinds from Sansei, Li‘l Soul and Waiola Shave Ice.
The "ARTy pARTy" booth, new this year, features local artists painting and embellishing T-shirts and trucker hats.
The theme is inspired by the Hokule‘a sailing canoe’s ambitious journey around the globe.
