Waihee man arrested in connection with fatal crash in Wailuku
Maui police arrested a 25-year-old Waihee man Tuesday in connection with the fatal motor vehicle crash Monday on Waiehu Beach Road in Wailuku.
The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree negligent homicide; driving without a valid license; first-degree methamphetamine trafficking; third-degree promoting dangerous drugs; third-degree detrimental drugs; and other drug offenses.
According to police, a 2004 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle traveling west on Waiehu Beach Road struck the back of a moped at the intersection with Linekona Place. The motorcycle continued west and sideswiped the left side of a car parked along the shoulder of the road.
The moped rider was identified as Earle Maielua, 47, of Wailuku. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
